The stories of those who stood up and resisted racism

Citizen UK: Ealing Rises Up was created by The National Portrait Gallery in partnership with Ealing Local History Centre Archives, artists Asia Ahmed and Narvir Singh, and local volunteer Citizen Researchers.

The exhibition investigated the work of people who stood up and resisted racism and recognised some of the lesser-known figures involved. Using archive material, spoken word and film, it told the stories of Ealing activists and the movements they were part of.

We incorporated elements of the exhibition in our People and Place gallery and produced an outdoor version of it in Gunnersbury Park.
