Since the 50’s, it's been a place where different philosophies, traditions, and artforms have flourished and combined to help shape the wider country's culture and politics. One of the first towns in the UK to be home to communities from former colonies, its diversity and energy has made it symbolic of racists’ worst fears and an inspiration for the fight against hate.
